Quote Of The Day

At dawn my lover comes to me
And tells me of her dreams
With no attempts to shovel the glimpse
Into the ditch of what each one means
At times I think there are no words
But these to tell what's true
And there are no truths outside the Gates of Eden

Jeep To The Rescue

Recently we had some very wet weather followed by gusty winds that resulted in one of our pine trees getting blown over. As you can see "The Leaning Tower of Pine" came to rest in a nearby ash tree. Not being lumberjacks, we were unsure about how to bring the pine down safely. The young squire and I reviewed the problem and then put our plan into action.

When in doubt - use the Jeep!

The Leaning Tower of Pine is now The Horizontal Tower of Pine. All that's left is for the chainsaws and chipper shredder to do their job. Ahhh, the joys of country living.

Government Run By Fools

The Barrister over at Maggie's Farm nails it:

"Most Americans, unlike Europeans, are emotionally mature enought to be willing to see that government is not run by their betters, but by cowardly morons - often by cowardly moronic narcissists who could never handle a real, demanding job in which their added value could be measured.

The widespread recognition of that is one thing that distinguishes America from nations with monarchic, dictatorial, and dependency traditions.

Hope springs eternal from the human breast, though, doesn't it? Even from those who know better.

I have felt disgusted and embarassed by our federal government and the administration over the past few weeks. We posted earlier today that these people could not run a successful candy shop, much less the government. But they have not shown that they can even run their own lives honestly and effectively. That's why I want them as far as possible from my medical care, my investments, my business, and my pocketbook - and from everything else in my life. Please - do me no favors."

Quote Of The Day

"The left would like to blame this global economic meltdown on capitalism, but I'm afraid that won't serve. What caused it is a vast Congressional-Industrial Complex where the know-it-all, do-gooder elitist leaders in Congress (a toxic mixture of "selfless" and "selfish" narcissists) conspired and colluded with the money-grubbing elitist leaders (selfish narcissists) in the business world to deviate from and otherwise ignore the fundamental laws of supply and demand (in order to enrich themselves while sanctimoniously insisting it was for the benefit of the disadvantaged); and to pretend that they could manipulate the market indefinitely without any adverse consequences.

You cannot ignore reality for very long without having to deal with the consequences."

Howard Fineman Stumbles Over What Many Of Us Already Know

Make way for the clue bus - here comes Newsweek (emphasis added):

"Surfer that he is, President Obama should know a riptide when he's in one. The center usually is the safest, most productive place in politics, but perhaps not now, not in a once-in-a-century economic crisis.

Swimming in the middle, he's denounced as a socialist by conservatives, criticized as a polite accommodationist by government-is-the-answer liberals, and increasingly, dismissed as being in over his head by technocrats.

Luckily for Obama, the public still likes and trusts him, at least judging by the latest polls, including NEWSWEEK's.But, in ways both large and small, what's left of the American establishment is taking his measure and, with surprising swiftness, they are finding him lacking."

"Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master."

Pick A Side

From The Return Of Scipio:

"You see two sides preparing for war. One side has politicians, vegetarians, environmentalists, professors, sodomites, school teachers, welfare recipients, newspapers and Hollywood. The other side has a battle hardened military, most of the nation’s policemen and 70,000,000 Americans with guns."

My constant refrain of late has been "There are a lot of pissed off people out there!" and I offer this as proof:
